Spartanburg County detention officer accused of carrying contraband into jail

A Spartanburg County detention officer is being accused of possessing prescription drugs illegally and carrying contraband into the county jail.

According to a written statement from Jail Director Larry Powers, Thomas Douglas Brown, 42, has been charged with possession of prescription drugs without a prescription and carrying contraband into the jail. Brown has been employed at the jail since Oct. 27, 2007. Brown has been fired and is currently being held at the jail while awaiting a bond hearing, according to the statement.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigation.
