Victor Rook of Pacolet, under sentence of death in connection with the murder of Emanuel Crow, of near White Stone about a year ago, and Charlie Lovet, of Chesnee, charged with the theft of an automobile, were baptized in the county jail yesterday morning by the Rev. Dean Smith of Chesnee.

Victor Rook's wife witnessed the ceremony. The baptism ceremony was performed in a bath tub on the third floor of the jail.

Rook has been sentenced to be electrocuted in October, but in the meantime the case has been appealed to the S.C. Supreme Court.

The Rev. Mr. Smith, was ordained in August at the Mount Olive Baptist Church, near Cowpens, and Rook and Lovet were the first converts that the preacher has baptized. The minister recently concluded a five weeks meeting at Chesnee during which time 278 conversions were reported.

It was a unique ceremony, was witnessed by Mrs. Rook, the Rev. T.S. Edmonds, Bill Mason of Chesnee and E. Phillips, of Harris, N.C.
