City May Ask for Space In New Court House

Councilman Charles Holland suggested Monday afternoon that the city ask for administrative office space in the proposed new county court house.

The suggestion came when City Council again tackled the problem of limited City Hall space. No immediate solution was reached.

"IT IS BECOMING increasingly clear that we must enlarge City Hall," Mayor Thomas W. Whiteside said, but added that it is a question of whether to enlarge the present building or go elsewhere.

City Manager T. Edward Temple said that Architect Harold Woodward advised against enlargement of the present building after a survey last winter.

Under the suggestion made by Mr. Holland, the police, fire, health, street, building and electrical departments would be left at the present City Hall.

MAYOR WHITESIDE said that it was suggested some time ago that the city move headquarters to the present County Court House in the event the new structure is built on another site. He added that present indications are that the new court house will be constructed on the same site as the present one, however.

Mr. Temple was asked to get estimates for painting before any decision is made on improving City Hall.
