Plans for Court House Expansion Completed

Architects Monday completed a survey of Spartanburg County Court House and put the finishing touches on 2 plans, both designs to meet court needs here.

One plan will recommend construction of a complete new court house on the present site.

The second plan will call for extensive renovation of the present 57-year-old structure with some additions to the building included.

AT A MEETING to be held this week, architects will present both of their plans to the County Board and committees from Spartanburg County Bar Association and the County Delegation.

The plan approved by the County Board will then be submitted to the Legislature.

The survey was conducted by architects Harold Woodward of Spartanburg and Hopkins and Baker of Florence and R.S. Cresswell, Greenville quantity surveyor.

Both of the plans include sketches and cost estimates.

The $4,500 contract signed by the architects also called for a scheme for temporary housing of all court house offices while work is under way.

SPACE REQUIREMENTS for all offices in the Court House will be recommended in both plans.

J. Davis Kerr, president of Spartanburg Bar Association, several months ago appointed this committee to work on the Court House project: Chairman C.Y. Brown, Edwin W. Johnson, Thomas B. Butler, Paul L. Taylor and J. Allen Lambright.

On the committee form the delegation are: Reps. Poliakoff, Arnold R. Merchant and John C. Williams.
